Got Dry Skin? 3 Do-it yourself tricks to quench your skin!

Fall is here, and winter is on its way. With the cooler climates, outdoor air becomes brisk and indoor heating leaves our skin gasping for hydration. Luckily, advances in Professional Skincare have made it easy to correct skin conditions such as dehydration, and help us to have balanced skin practically on demand. If you or anyone you know struggle with acne breakouts, pigmentation, or fine lines and wrinkles – there is a solution for you.

After returning from a multi-stop trip around the country, I returned with dry, flakey skin. I thought, I can’t have this, I am an Esthetician, I am supposed to have perfect skin! Now I am happily reunited with my full homecare routine. One of my moisturizers by Lira Clinical (my favorite Pro-skincare line) corrected my dryness immediately, now that’s results!

  1. Exfoliate your skin 2x/ Week

  • Exfoliation using a gentle professional product is KEY to preserving fresh, glowing, youthful skin. I stress Professional here because over the counter products like St Ives Apricot Scrub use harsh surfactants known as detergents that strip the skin, cause over-drying, and actually have reverse effects on your skin.

  • When we exfoliate, we are removing both oily and dry buildup on our skin that clogs pores, blocking access into the epidermis where fresh, healthy cells are being formed.

  • The purpose of exfoliation is to create access into the epidermis in order to allow for product penetration, in this case, hydrating ingredients such as hyaluronic acid and non-comedogenic oils such as Rose, Argan, Shea, or Jojoba.

2. Apply a Professional quality Hydrating Mask

  • Now that you have opened the pathway into the epidermis, your skin is ready to absorb your best ingredients to achieve hydration.

  • Look for some of the ingredients above, in addition to Plant Stem Cells, which speed up cell renewal and Peptides which build collagen and elastin, thus warding off signs of aging.

  • Sometimes the mask can feel a little active, which is good. But if it burns hot, then immediately remove gently with a cool towel.

3. Finally, give your skin a drink by Moisturizing and protecting (with SPF).

  • This was the whole point right? This should feel good, and your skin will thank you!

  • If you are on a budget or not sure how much you want to invest in your skincare routine, choose products that STAY on your skin, such as a great moisturizer and SPF, however, the exfoliator first is what helps those products work!
